Piezo Stacks for Highly-Precise Positioning and High Force Generation in a Small Size

Piezo stack actuators are available in a broad range of shapes and sizes from 1 x 1 up to 25 x 25 mm2 are available. They consist of stacked piezoelectric plates which are connected electrically parallel.

 

Nominal operation voltage is 0 to 150 V. These actuators are "low voltage piezo actuators". The actuators also allow semi-bipolar operation with an extended driver voltage range of up to-30 V to 150 V. This method of operation  result in significantly larger displacement.  

Bare stacks are perfect for integration into custom mechanism. The stacks have generally a small size when they are compared with other actuator types like hydraulic cylinders at same force. Alos interfacing is extremely simple. The piezo stacks are cuboid and have two electrical wires to control the element. Encased actuators with pre-stress mechanism are ideal solution for robust system integration.  

Piezo actuators can be operated in extreme environments. Adaptations are possible for operation in cryogenic temperature, in vacuum, and in exotic environment such as high-g field or vibration.
